In fact, compared with oil-immersed transformers, dry-type transformers basically require no maintenance. They only need to pay attention to the temperature and clean dust regularly. However, in order to extend its service life and eliminate safety hazards caused by aging/overloading, as a manufacturer of dry-type transformers, it is still recommended that you perform maintenance work.

Advantages of dry-type transformers

Dry-type transformer refers to a transformer whose iron core and windings are not immersed in insulating oil. Its cooling method is air convection natural cooling and fan cooling. It has:

1. High safety: using non-flammable resin, it will not explode or release toxic gases, will not cause harm to the environment, other equipment and human body, and is not sensitive to humidity, dust and pollution; there will be no partial discharge and no "turtle" in operation. "crack" possibility.

2. High reliability: Using H-class enameled wire and H-class insulating paint impregnated, it has good overload capacity and short-circuit resistance.

3. Energy saving and environmental protection: The product has the characteristics of low loss, energy saving, low noise, flexible design, and degradable and recycled materials.

Causes of aging of dry-type transformers

But for dry-type transformers that operate for a long time, the main thing to pay attention to is the damage caused by aging. There are two main reasons for the aging of dry-type transformers:

1. Gradual aging of the functions and components of dry-type transformers: The switch blades corrode, causing accidents, and the temperature of the insulating material is too high, which will affect its service life.

2. Overload aging caused by overload during the peak period of electricity consumption: the performance of dry-type transformers will be degraded, causing hidden dangers during operation.

Dry-type transformer maintenance project

Starting from the reasons for the aging of dry-type transformers, we can formulate corresponding maintenance plans to improve the operating status of dry-type transformers and increase their operating efficiency and service life.

Generally speaking, there are these regular maintenance items and methods:

1. For dry and clean places, inspections should be conducted once a year or more. For places where the air contains a lot of dust, salt spray, oil smoke, etc., the inspection time should be shortened appropriately;

2. During maintenance, the transformer must be powered off, and all high and low voltage terminals should be short-circuited and grounded to ensure safety;

3. During inspection, if excessive dust accumulation is found, it should be removed to ensure air circulation and avoid insulation breakdown due to creepage;

4. Check whether fasteners and connections are loose, conductive parts, grounding points and other parts for signs of rust and corrosion, and insulation surfaces for creepage traces and carbonization. Measures should be taken to deal with them if necessary;

5. Check whether the thermostat and fan are working properly;

6. Dust in the ventilation holes of the protective shell should also be dealt with accordingly;

7. After the transformer has been running for several years (five years is recommended), the insulation resistance test can be carried out to determine whether the transformer can continue to operate. Generally, no other tests are required.

Of course, if a serious accident occurs to the transformer during maintenance, you must contact relevant professionals for processing or contact the manufacturer for repairs.
